Sumatriptan DosePro Offers Needle-Free Alternative to Imitrex Injection

Pharmaceutical company Zogenix has developed an alternate delivery method for administration of sumatriptan, the active ingredient in Imitrex.

Imitrex is currently available in injection, nasal spray and pill forms. The new delivery mechanism, Sumatriptan DosePro, is a pre-filled, disposable, needle-free system.

The injectable delivery method has been the fastest option available to patients. The needle-free system DosePro offers the same advantage of speed as the injectable method while allowing people who are afraid of needles or resistant to using them to achieve the same relief.

The medication is delivered into the abdomen or thigh.

We saw a demo of this in Boston at the American Headache Society Conference - It is so cool! It looks as if this will be a nice alternative to the Stat-Dose - but it's a one time thing, unlike the injections that you can save the one part of.

It will be interesting to see how much it is, what insurance is going to do with it....ya know, the whole deal.
