My Life, My Lesson: Be Careful What You Wish For

I've been on the birth control pill Yasmin for almost one month now. My cycles are already regulating themselves to a T, but I'm having one of those be careful what you wish for moments.

It has been mighty nice to only have three or four light periods a year. Lord help me. Hopefully someday I'll have my own bundle of joy and this will all be more than worth it.

I had a stubbornly awful two day migraine at the end of last week that coincided with the start of my period. I'm hoping this can be written off as pure coincidence, but I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens in the months to come. I don't quite know what the next step will be if I decide I have to go off the Yasmin, but perhaps I can try another low dose pill and see if I have better luck. Regardless, it's all speculation at this point.

Otherwise I'm kind of in a holding pattern with my meds. I see my local neurologist on December 15, at which time we'll be looking at increasing my Amitriptyline.

I need to get a clearer idea of whether I want to get another round of Botox before that appointment. I'm sure he'll want me to get it. It's a nice little fee and mark up on the medication paid out of pocket for him. But what about the fact that it didn't seem to do anything significant for me? That $1,000 is a big chunk of change and would pay for a large portion of another visit to Dr. Krusz in Dallas.

I said all along I was committed to trying it twice, but it's not so easy to stand by that given the lack of results. If anyone has sage advice for me, I'm all ears.

My husband C and I celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary on November 30, so I'm sharing a photo of us on our wedding day (my favorite photo of us, actually).

This may not be what you want to hear, but the general guideline about Botox that I've heard is that you should give it at least 2 tries, since sometimes the second treatment "takes" better than the first.

(My personal experience was the opposite, so I seem to fall into the category of developing somewhat of an immunity to it.)

Be well,
MJ

Hi Diana,

I would have to agree..two tries might be worth it. I have had some people respond at three and when headaches are really severe I am just looking for a reduction in pain and frequency..ANY reduction is good..

Hope the Yasmin works out for you..

Good luck!

oh, Diana - what a beautiful picture. your time will come, probably when you are not expecting it. that is typically when it all happens right. best to you both.

Happy anniversary

My neurologist told me that he has found that Yas is the WORST bc for migraines, that it really tends to exacerbate them. I know you have your own neuro to discuss it with but I thought I'd throw it out there.
